# Recovery 3001 0.4.0 Beta 1 Dev 10 R14

R14 is a focused UI polish release for the guided Windows USB recovery
application. It keeps the R13 recovery engine and safety policy unchanged.

## What changed

- Added a persistent six-stage progress strip with distinct current,
  completed, and pending states.
- Added a generated Recovery 3001 window and application icon.
- Reworked the selected-USB area as a read-only protection card.
- Made the primary action wider and visually dominant.
- Reorganized the welcome screen into recovery steps, a clear overwrite
  warning, and three source-protection assurances.
- Moved detailed safety checks and prior-work controls into compact,
  collapsed expert areas.
- Removed duplicated selection-stage guidance so candidate file rows are
  visible in the initial product window.
- Reorganized the candidate toolbar so the selected-file recovery action
  remains visible beside the current selection summary.
- Added compact responsive variants for the exact 1024 x 720, 150% target.

## Safety behavior retained

- The source USB is opened read-only.
- Windows system disks are blocked.
- The same physical disk cannot be used as the safe image or recovery
  destination.
- Existing recovered files are not overwritten.
- Workspace capacity is checked before image or recovery output is created.
- Raw I/O and device identity failures remain fail-closed.

## Verification

- Windows application tests: 58 passed.
- Warnings-denied Clippy: passed.
- Automated layout profiles: 4 passed, including 1024 x 720 at 150%.
- Native Windows 11 UI states at 150% DPI: 10 captured and validated.
- Product window: 1120 x 680 default, 820 x 460 minimum.

## Scope and retained evidence

R14 changes only the Windows application presentation and packaging version.
The R13 backup-boot recovery behavior and the retained R4 FAT32/exFAT
1,000-file exact size/SHA-256 evidence are unchanged. They are not R14
recovery-engine reruns.

Windows 10 target evidence, a production code-signing certificate, a
four-of-five unassisted user study, and an authorized destructive physical
USB recovery test remain external release gates.
